Templars have installed
them in The place named” la cavalerie “On
the larzac platform at only six kilometers from saint
Eulalie commandery .this place was inhabited from a long
time attested by the presence of a lot of dolmens .when
they arrived about 1154, there was already a village
named lestrade at one kilometer in the north, close to
the roman road which crossed north to south the larzac
and joined in saint-thibery the domitian road always
in use .
Because of a litigation with the town of millau concerning
lestrade, templars have gave up this primitive site, that
was called the old cavalerie to the benefit of the new place.it
is the creation of a new agglomeration, gathering scattered
populations and desertion from some isolated sites.the walls
protected the church and the commander’s house which
was a attic keep.

The
Commandery of La Cavalerie
whith some houses.it
is around the church that the templar’s castle
was .this one did not exist anymore at the revolution
time excepted a little house of small value.there however
had been there an important attic tower. it remains despite
all a vestige of templars time : a part of the saint-marie
church.when you are penetrating in the current church
, rebuilted between 1760 and 1768, if
you observe well the wall which faces the door, it
is constructed with beautiful quadrangular stones and
pierced with a window in semicircular arch.it is the
wall of the flat bedside of the primitive templar’s
church, the only vestige of this period.
As in sainte-eulalie and la couvertoirade at the time of
the one hundred years war (1337-1453)
The inhabitants of la cavalerie obtained from the great prior
of saint-Gilles, Bertrand d’arpajon, from the rouergue,
the authorization to strengthen their village .
