(Aveyron south-France)

The abbey of Gellone in Saint-Guilhem-the-desert is at the beginning, the most part of the presence of the Temple order in Sainte-Eulalie since 1152, before modestly installed in Saint-George-at-Luzençon, since 1140. The monks of Saint-Guilhem sold to Templars the church of the place. King of Aragon, also count de Barcelone and also count of Millau will install Templars in Larzac. It will give them, in 1159, the village of sainte- Eulalie and all his possessions in Larzac, as well as the possibility (the instruction?) to create in this territory new cities, points of strengthened support and castles.

Sainte-Eulalie de Cernon

Templars rebuilt the church after 1152 on the former site of the church and the buildings located in the prolongation of this one with the tower of the Forty (turn attic).

The temple knights chapel was consisted of a single nave, arched in cradle, forming three spans delimited by arcs lightly broken. A fourth span increased with cylindrical semi apse formed the core illuminated at the origin by three bays (only one preserved). Small bays were at the origin to illuminate this one with a rosette on the western wall. The door of origin was pierced in the last western span, south side (it was replaced in the second chapel of left while entering). Capitals were carved in way very Stylized, testifies to the Templar’s sobriety.

Today since the place, you will observe a baroque door, open in the
17th century by the commander Jean of Bernuy-Villeneuve in the apse.
he reversed the direction of the church for personal
Suitability, the place of the fountain which date to this time
was the old Templars cemetery.
