The oldest vestiges
of Montricoux’s area went from the Palaeolithic
( flint ,dolmen,…).at Gaelic times that belonged
to the Carduques people which have left their name to
QUERCY and CAHORS town.
A document dating of the 30 of marsh 767 established
that after the conquest of Albigensian and Rouergue king « pepin
le bref » went in pilgrimage to saint-antonin monastery
and he gave him Saint Pierre de Mormacus priory (Montricoux
name in late gallo-roman) , the true etymology of Montricoux
at the end of XII eme centuries seems to be Mons-Riculfi
from latin mons (mount) and from germanic ric (powerful)
and reulf (wolf) . it is also called Mon-Ricos in « langue
d’oc » language that means hard, rough mount.
Gave in 1155 to fort sans commander of Vaour, by Frotard
viscount of Saint-Antonin. in 1179 the donation was confirmed
by the Toulouse count , a charter defined the type of jurisdiction,
here the lordly rights are total. And it is expressed by
a seal with the mention « S+ Vaoris monricos » in
may 14 of 1181 the abbey of Saint-Antonin give all his rights
to the templar. Montricoux quickly became an important center
with commercial transactions and seat of an active market.
Wages
of treason, the city was given in stronghold by king
Philippe le Bel to Esquieu de Florian denouncer of the
temple. In 1322, it was given to hospitalers.
